Wet Leaf Aroma

Malty, barnyard, slight animal, dark fruit, moss, hint of leather, honey.

Tasting Notes

Silky from the first sip with some bitterness, coherent texture and a light oiliness. Dried apricot, dry fruit. Gentle, light and sweet tea, opening with molasses sweetness. The bitterness somewhat recedes after some steeps, and leaves an easy to drink, and juicy brew. It remains with a nutty, herbal edge, alongside nice woody notes that give some more dimension. Did get rather right after a bunch of steeps, not much complexity.

Back to Manzhuan today, this time the CYH 2014 six mountains version, next to yesterday's Quanjihao Manzhuan Gushu still on my mind. Both are delicious (as Manzhuan often is) albeit slightly different.

The CYH feels more elegant, elusive, with a bit more of that thicker, oily quality up front. Yesterday's had more juice to it, more of a mouthwatering pull, and a touch less character. Both are not overly complex but round and accessible.

Sweet, malty, friendly, light, that's the shape of this one for me. The molasses sweetness especially, I could drink Manzhuan just for that. Energy quietly builds, expansive and relaxing, a few deep breaths in.

Alex has written it does benefit from a stronger brew, using more leaves - I second that - it helps to bring out more of the body, and mitigating that ‘hollow lightness’ that can show up when brewing the way I usually do. (even long steeps help as its quite forgiving and soft throughout)

Overall I find this a great tea to drink now, as its tasty and balanced, - with good aroma and sweetness - just what I love in semi aged sheng.
