I revisited this tea today using a Gaiwan - which turned out less bitter than the Hongni recently. This tea has nice aromatics.
The fruity sweetness and aromatic nature stood out immediately, with very low bitterness.
This combination of fruity and floral notes with pronounced sweetness creates the impression of a thick mouthfeel, though the actual texture is somewhat watery. This discrepancy between perceived and actual body is something I've encountered in several Da Xue Shan teas.
The experience centers on aromatics and sensations in the nose and mouth cavity, leaving nice lingering taste on the tongue but not so much felt depth in the hou yun.
The overall taste is lovely and very approachable.
The energetic quality is noticeable and leans toward the stimulating side, reminding of teas from Menghai area, though it does not show much depth.
An aromatic, front-palate focused tea with lighter depth and body - enjoyable for its immediate aromatic appeal and direct energy.
A stellar tea for the price.
