First session with the 2014 Chen Yuan Hao Yiwu from the Six Famous Tea Mountains series. Brewed it in the gaiwan today instead of the usual pot, just to see how it comes across.
Taste is nicely round, with a good amount of sweetness and dimension to it. Energetically I noticed it from the first cup, which is usually a good sign. Its character feels calming -energy draws inward, a soft centering feeling, never a hammer, but with depth.
Boiling or close to boiling water brings out some bitterness especially in the first few steeps, later one its more soft and round.
The overall impression is that it remains rather light throughout, but still the mouthfeel carries some weight. The whole 6FTM series has this kind of elegance, lightness with substance behind it. Probably needed more leaf than I used today, my ratio was on the low side.
Also feels like it thins out rather fast - complexity wise while energy still keeps accumulating for a while.
Good example of Yiwu to me: Soft, sweet, good aftertaste, nice rhyme, relaxing - not pushy.
This tea curbs my metabolism. Every time I had it I tend to get hungry real fast. (most of my tea sessions happen before lunch anyways).
Today in the Hongni I felt it was much more ‘reserved’ than in the last sessions. Wet leaf scent and overall aroma was leaned one-dimensional, herbal-forward, while the energy still delivers.
Still, beautiful Yiwu profile, good aftertaste, - as expected;).
