2013 Wan Gong from Tea Urchin

2013 Wan Gong

In a Sentence
A bright, sweet Wangong, juicy and light.
Wet Leaf Aroma
brown sugar, berries, malt, barnyard notes, hunch of mushroom, intriguing
Tasting Notes
starts with a nice sweetness, first impression is good coherent mouthfeel, but also a bit watery lightness. lot of the aroma comes through the nasal cavity, overall brighter notes and what I would call forest sweetness (malty, creamy, sweet, with a little bit of floral note to it and a woody backbone), touch of bitterness and barely any astringency but still a nice little bite to it (Acc. to the vendor there’s 10% Bulang leaves blended with it) some vegetal/herbal note after the first sweet impression has faded. Toward the end there is more of a watery feel, bc the lighter notes and sweetness have been washed out (reminds a bit of overly chewed bubblegum juice fruit;) - overall a very tasty and clean drinker. Appears like good material and well processed.

Revisiting this tea here on my vacation in croatia. I am using bottled Water (Jana) which is supposedly quite soft. Here I notice more of the Bulang character in the beginning and a bit more of the ‘bite’ and crisp notes in the first steeps. At home it felt lighter and thinner. A very nice combination: Wangong and Bulang. Especially in this aged version. Nice malty and and full, complementing the soft Yiwu character.
